Description
Position Overview
Century Mechanical Contractors, Inc. is seeking an autonomous, bilingual HR Generalist to manage our Human Resources function. In this role, you will operate as our internal HR department of one, serving as the primary HR contact for our 180 employees. Aside from our central office team, the vast majority of our workforce consists of skilled tradespeople operating directly on field jobsites.
Reporting to the Office Manager, this mid-career role is ideal for a self-motivated professional who thrives on independence, exercises sound judgment, and can confidently bridge the communication gap between the office and the field. You will own all daily HR workflows, ensure strict legal compliance, and support our field personnel.

- Records & Reporting: Maintain accurate personnel files, training logs, and HRMS records; run quarterly reports on attrition rates.

- Claims Management: Own workers’ compensation claims in tight coordination with the Safety Manager; manage unemployment claims.
- Investigations: Initiate and conduct thorough, confidential investigations upon receiving employee complaints.
Employee Relations & Field Support
- Field Workforce Liaison: Serve as the accessible, primary point of contact for employee questions, tailored to a highly remote workforce that rarely visits the office.
- Manager Advisory: Guide field superintendents and managers through employee relations issues, disciplinary actions, and proper documentation.
- Leave Management: Administer and track LOA / FMLA requests and coordinate employee disability and life insurance claims.
- Feedback Loops: Conduct exit interviews and present quarterly feedback to leadership regarding attrition types and root causes.
- Culture & Engagement: Manage the Employee of the Month program and present updates at Quarterly Supervision Meetings.
Benefits Support & Payroll Partnership
- Bilingual Benefits Support: Cross-train in benefits to assist Spanish-speaking field employees with enrollment questions and navigate plan choices.
- Open Enrollment Collaboration: Partner with the Payroll/Benefits Specialist to coordinate and execute annual open enrollment.
- Payroll Backup: Cross-train to learn and serve as the secondary backup for weekly job-cost payroll processing when needed.
- Data Changes: Process all promotions, demotions, pay rate changes, and terminations within the HRMS.
- Administrative Ownership: Complete verifications of employment (VOE) and provide job references for former employees.
