Description
Position OverviewThe HR Communications Coordinator is responsible for developing and executing a comprehensive internal communications strategy for Human Resources programs, initiatives, and priorities across all University of Kansas campuses. Working in close collaboration with the Office of Public Affairs and campus communication partners, this role ensures HR information is coordinated, clear, accessible, timely, and aligned with the university's mission and strategic goals.
The position serves as the primary point of contact for HR-related communications, including announcements, web and intranet content, newsletters, presentations, and other employee-facing materials. The role supports transparency, engagement, and a positive employee experience through effective communication practices and appropriate use of multiple media platforms. This position reports to the Chief of Staff to the Chief Human Resources Officer, with dotted-line collaboration with members of the senior HR leadership team. This is an in-person position located at both the Lawrence and Medical Center campus offices with an opportunity for some flexibility for remote work as approved.

- Develop, manage, and maintain an HR communications calendar to ensure timely, coordinated, and effective messaging across all HR programs and initiatives.
- Partner with HR leadership and subject matter experts to plan and deliver strategic communications supporting policy changes, union activities, program rollouts, and organizational initiatives.
- Create clear, engaging written, visual, and verbal communications tailored to diverse employee audiences, including faculty, staff, and leadership.
- Manage the distribution of HR messages across appropriate channels, including email, newsletters, websites, intranet platforms, presentations, and campus news outlets.
- Oversee HR newsletters and coordinate content placement on campus platforms such as KU Today, Campus Insider, and related outlets.
- Serve as a liaison with the Office of Public Affairs and campus communication leaders to ensure message alignment and consistency.
- Oversee and maintain HR web and intranet content, ensuring information is current, accurate, accessible, and compliant with university and ADA accessibility standards.
- Apply plain-language and inclusive communication principles to improve understanding and engagement.
- Track and assess communication effectiveness using available metrics and adjust strategies as needed.
Position Requirements
This is an in-person position located at both the Lawrence and Medical Center campus offices with an opportunity for some flexibility for remote work as approved.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in communications, public relations, journalism, marketing, or a related field.
- One year of experience in internal or organizational communications.
- Strong writing, editing, and proofreading skills with the ability to translate complex information into clear, employee-friendly language as evidenced by application materials and interview process.
- Experience managing web or intranet content.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office and digital communication tools.
- Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work effectively with diverse stakeholders at all organizational levels as evidenced with application materials and interview process.
- Previous experience with managing multiple priorities, remaining flexible, and working effectively under deadlines.
