Description
Be part of Samaritan Healthcare’s continued growth! Step into the newly created Director of Human Resources role and help shape HR services, strengthen employee relations, and support an expanding department—all while contributing to a brand-new hospital in the scenic landscape of Washington State.
The Position
Samaritan is seeking a strong, relationship-driven Director of Human Resources to lead HR operations and support the organization’s continued growth. This role offers the opportunity to strengthen employee relations, develop leaders, and establish consistent HR practices that support a positive, accountable, and engaged workplace.
Reporting directly to Chief Human Resources Officer (CHRO), the Director will oversee all HR functions, with the exception of Employee Health. Responsibilities include employee relations, talent acquisition, performance management, policy compliance, and workforce development. The Director will partner with senior leadership and department leaders to align HR practices with organizational priorities and support effective day-to-day operations.
A key priority will be leading labor and employee relations across a unionized workforce, with responsibility for supporting two large unions. The Director will oversee grievance management, guide leaders on collective bargaining agreement interpretation and sensitive employee matters, and ensure the fair, consistent application of HR policies and labor agreements.
The Director will equip managers with the knowledge and tools to address employee concerns, manage performance, maintain appropriate documentation, and apply policies consistently. This leader will also strengthen compliance processes, update policies as needed, and advance workplace safety and harassment prevention through clear expectations and effective education.
The Director will support workforce planning, recruitment, and retention as Samaritan continues to grow. Working with operational leaders and community partners, this individual will identify opportunities to expand talent pipelines, strengthen recruitment partnerships, and reduce reliance on temporary staffing. Familiarity with UKG (formerly UltiPro) and experience developing sustainable healthcare recruitment strategies would be valuable.
Building trust and strengthening organizational culture will also be important. The Director will build upon existing engagement initiatives, encourage employee recognition, and introduce creative ways to improve morale and connection across departments. By balancing an approachable leadership style with sound judgment and accountability, this individual will help position HR as a trusted partner to both employees and leaders.
The ideal candidate will bring strong employee relations expertise, practical labor relations experience, and the ability to coach leaders through challenging situations. A confident communicator and strategic problem-solver, this individual will help Samaritan strengthen its HR function, develop leadership capability, and build a sustainable workforce for the future.
