We are looking for seasoned HR professional/Payroll Specialist who pride themselves in their ability to provide strategy, leadership and produce results as part of the management team.  Managing a team of Human Resources and Payroll administration support, you as the ideal candidate, understand how to live and breed accountability in the workplace.

Reporting to the Chief Development Officer and supporting 8 locations in Manitoba and Saskatchewan, and approximately 350 employees, this is a critical role in the success of this ownership group.

Reporting to the Chief Development Officer, the purpose of this position is to lead the operations of both HR and Payroll for the organization.  This role is designed to support the core competencies of Leadership, Team, Customer and Operations Excellence


Human Resources:

  • Ensure the recruitment and hiring needs of the branches are met within a timely manner 
  • Conduct all hirings, terminations and disciplinary items according to labour standards and Human Rights legislation
  • Assist and taking the lead where/when necessary, on legal items, grants and provincial funding items, as well as policy updates to reflect current provincial requirements/standards
  • Ensure all employees are paid accurately and on-time
  • Oversee accurate and timely employee document management
  • Conduct month end, year end reporting and assisting Accounting team with any required financial information
  • Lead HR/Payroll operational team meetings with support staff
  • Oversee DCAG’s fulfillment of HR recruitment and orientation initiatives
  • Oversee accurate weekly hours input to payroll by department managers
  • Ensure semi-monthly pension remittance
  • Conduct weekly GM HR and Payroll Operational Meetings
  • Oversee ongoing back to work programs through WCB/Benefits and Department Managers
  • Attend weekly meeting with CDO to prioritize the week
  • Review and conduct Benefits reconciliation to authorize for payment
  • Review & Process semi-monthly company payroll in compliance to legislative requirements
  • Provide month-end financial reporting to Accounting Team
  • Review & manage self funded insurance balances & ongoing activity
  • Oversee process adherence to all HR/Payroll processes including onboarding and offboarding, company dismissals, ROE, etc.
  • Conduct analysis of 30/90 day new hire interviews and exit interviews; prepare learning for executive
  • Represent HR and Payroll at with dealership monthly manager meetings
  • Prepare and attend HR/OD focused Executive meeting
  • Participate in monthly 1:1 meeting with CDO
  • Review Department Priorities and prepare progress report out for executive team
  • Facilitate Leadership & Culture half day sessions for new employees
  • Deliver Manger/HR process training to managers (new managers)
  • Creation /general upkeep of company policy reflecting provincial legislation standards
  • Generate, review & adjust insurable hours within the HCM
  • Assess, review, and conduct quarterly HCM maintenance
  • Audit and reconcile payroll registers to accounts, policies & programs
  • Reconcile Vacation accruals to accounts
  • Review existing HR & Payroll Policies to determine if updates are require
  • Lead annual benefits renewals and finalize employee presentation (Both DCAG & MJF Programs)
  • Annual renewal of Predictive Index Program
  • Employee annual performance reviews administration
  • Annual T4 review and submission
  • Prepare Employee Years of Service reporting
  • Annual June 30th Vacation Payout management
  • Assess, plan and present annual HR/Payroll Department budget to CFO
  • Work with CDO in planning and presentation of HR/Payroll Department’s Annual Strategies

  • Post-secondary Education combined with formal training within Human Resources
  • PCP or CPM Payroll Designation and CHRP/CPHR Designation
  • Intermediate or Advanced Knowledge of Ceridian/Dayforce Payroll System
  • Knowledge of provincial Labour Standards and Human Rights legislation
  • Understanding the complexities of various compensation structures
  • Proficient in HCM Configuration (Technical vs. Administrative)
  • 5+ Year’s payroll experience and 5+ Year’s human resources experience
  • Strong knowledge of Provincial Payroll Legislation
  • Knowledge within WCB, OH&S policies & Standards
  • Knowledge of Benefit and Pension Administration
  • Excel/Word/Outlook and Teams Proficiency
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Critical thinking/problem solving
