Reporting to the President and CEO, the Chief Human Resource Officer ("CHRO") leads and manages the HR function across all Companies (the "Companies"). In that role, the CHRO is responsible for supporting the strategic direction of the Companies by overseeing its talent recruitment, performance management, compensation administration, workforce planning and succession management. The CHRO also oversees the administration of HR policies, procedures, systems, payroll and benefits programs. The ideal candidate will have at least fifteen years' experience in various positions within the Human Resources functions. Knowledge of or experience in the insurance industry would be a plus. The individual should also be very comfortable using HR-related systems and technology (e.g., ADP) as part of the role.
This is a hybrid role with multiple locations available in the United States.
Responsibilities
Supporting the Companies' recruiting of top talent to fill open positions, as needed, across the organization.
Strengthening and maintaining outstanding skill sets and service levels within the Human Resources department.
Rigorously and meticulously administering offer, promotion and similar employment documentation.
Coordinating new employee onboarding and orientation at a level appropriate for those recently hired.
Leading the annual administration of individual goal setting, performance monitoring, annual assessments and promotion dispensation.
Overseeing the accurate and timely administration of the Companies' compensation and benefits programs and providing recommendations for changes to benefits programs, when appropriate.
Ensuring that approved personnel policies are clearly communicated and in force while making recommendations to improve such policies, where appropriate.
Leading efforts and setting an example in returning to office on a hybrid basis for those within commuting distance. As such, the CHRO should be prepared to work in office 3-5 days per week.
Supporting Leadership in establishing and maintaining the desired culture of hard work, collaboration, continuous improvement, data-driven decision- making and service responsiveness, while supporting programs that enhance employee engagement,
Supporting Leadership in identifying potential successors for key positions throughout the Companies and assist with initiatives that groom potential successors for future roles.
Coordinating the content and presentations before the Companies' Leadership Development and Compensation Committee, a subcommittee of the Board of Directors.
Overseeing the accurate and timely administration of the Companies' weekly and bi-weekly payroll.
Working with the Companies' Leadership to coordinate the awards and administration of the Companies' short-term and long-term incentive compensation programs.
Overseeing the Companies' compliance with state and Federal regulatory and tax requirements relating to payroll, benefits, 401K and other personnel- related functions.
Overseeing the use of HR-related systems (predominantly ADP), while deploying additional modules, if beneficial, and identifying ways to streamline and further automate HR processes, where appropriate.
Providing support for the Underwriter Trainee program under development, as needed.
Addressing other personnel-related matters as may arise (e.g., mentorship programs, special recognition "above and beyond" awards, terminations, conflict resolutions, etc.).
Requirements
15+ years of experience in human resources, covering various aspects from benefits, payroll, talent acquisition, business partnering, etc.
The ability to attract and retain capable HR professionals who will carry out their responsibilities at a high-performance level.
The ability to oversee an effective talent recruitment process that will allow the Companies to add outstanding associates at all levels and across departments.
Strong organizational and administrative skills that combine careful attention to details with an ability to be strategic and offer sound counsel in supporting the Companies' operations from an HR perspective.
Mental toughness and the ability to handle pressures under tight timelines and evolving business priorities.
Outstanding interpersonal and written communication skills, with the ability to project and impart energy, enthusiasm and engagement.
Credibility, confidence and the ability to get along well with counterparts in senior management and other levels, while being direct and delivering difficult messages, when needed.
The ability to use technology to make HR process improvements that benefit managers and employees in goal setting, performance management and other related areas.
Education
A bachelor's degree from an accredited U.S. college/university, with a plus for majors or coursework in human resources management, HR analytics, insurance/risk management, economics, or related fields.
