Aspen View Public Schools is a rural Alberta school division with a mission to engage learning, ignite potential, and inspire success. The Division serves approximately 2,473 Kindergarten to Grade 12 students across nine schools, four Hutterite Brethren schools, and two Outreach/Off-Campus/Virtual schools, supported by approximately 330 staff.
This position is based at the Division Office and reports directly to the Superintendent of Schools (Chief Superintendent & CEO).
Position Summary
Aspen View Public Schools is seeking a Director of Human Resources to provide system leadership and operational oversight for all core HR services. The Director supports positive employer–employee relationships, sound staffing practices, and consistent, fair, and legally defensible processes across the Division. The successful candidate will lead recruitment and onboarding, guide employee relations, support leadership teams with consistent HR advice, and contribute to the development and implementation of HR-related policy, administrative procedures, and internal systems.
In addition, the Director of Human Resources will serve as the Division lead for complaint and dispute resolution processes that require coordinated triage, documentation, communication, and resolution — particularly in areas where service concerns intersect with people, conduct, and workplace/school climate.

Director of Human Resources
Key Responsibilities
The key responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Provide leadership for HR services across the Division, ensuring consistent, fair, and professional practices that support strong workplaces and student success.
- Support the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of Human Resources policies, administrative procedures, templates, and internal processes.
- Assist the Superintendent in ensuring compliance and consistency with the Education Act, applicable provincial and federal legislation, Board policies, administrative procedures, and applicable collective agreements.
- Lead and coordinate recruitment and selection processes in collaboration with school and system leaders, including identifying staffing needs, confirming role requirements and qualifications, developing and updating job descriptions, and managing competition postings.
- Support candidate screening, short-listing, interview scheduling, and participation in interviews as required, ensuring processes are consistent, equitable, and well-documented.
- Develop and maintain onboarding and orientation processes and tools to ensure a strong start-up experience for all new employees across worksites.
Prepare job offer documentation and communicate clearly and professionally with successful candidates regarding terms and conditions of employment and next-step requirements. - Provide guidance and coordination for employee relations matters, including coaching leaders on respectful workplace expectations, attendance and performance management processes, accommodation processes, conflict resolution, and investigations when required.
- Quarterback dispute resolution for transportation-related complaints and disputes, including concerns related to service delivery, ride times, and student behavior on buses. The responsibility for routing and contractor management will remain with the Secretary-Treasurer and the Transportation Coordinator; however, the Director of Human Resources will lead the complaint intake, triage, documentation, communication, and resolution pathway in collaboration with all responsible parties, ensuring issues are addressed consistently and professionally.
Qualifications and Skills
The ideal candidate will possess:
- A diploma or degree in Human Resource Management (or a related field).
- A Certified Human Resource Professional (CHRP) designation (or the ability to obtain within a defined period, if applicable).
- Demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities efficiently and effectively in a deadline-driven environment.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to manage sensitive, complex, and sometimes contentious matters with professionalism, discretion, and fairness.
- Strong written communication skills, including the ability to produce clear documentation, correspondence, and process guidance.
