Description
Houston Trust Company seeks an experienced HR generalist to manage day-to-day HR operations for a growing 43-person organization. The ideal candidate is confident serving as the go-to resource for employees and managers in a small employer environment. Reporting to the SVP of Communications & HR, you will also play a key role in advancing technology, process, and program improvements as we scale the HR function alongside the business.
Primary Responsibilities and Duties:
- Administer all health and benefits programs, including plan enrollments, terminations, compliance, and insurance broker management.
- Administer leave programs in accordance with company policy and FMLA regulations (once applicable).
- Conduct the interactive process with employees requesting accommodations under the ADA.
- Collaborate with corporate accounting on payroll processing.
- Administer the 401(k) plan, including distributions, loans, rollovers, profit sharing, and funding; support corporate accounting in performing compliance testing.
- Maintain personnel records in both digital and hardcopy formats.
- Develop and document standard operating procedures for HR policy implementation.
- Support managers in disciplinary matters and performance management.
- Support the annual performance and compensation review cycle.
- Maintain the employee handbook, including coordinating annual legal review.
- Partner with legal counsel to ensure compliance with applicable employment laws and regulations.
- Coordinate the internship program for approximately 6–8 students annually.
- Support the SVP of Communications & Human Resources in evaluating and implementing process improvements, technology, and operational efficiencies.
- Other duties and special projects as assigned.

Requirements
Education, Certifications, and Expertise Required:
- A minimum of five (5) years of experience in an HR Generalist role required.
- PHR or SHRM-CP certification preferred.
- Demonstrated confidence with and experience in benefits and 401k plan administration, FMLA, and ADA.
- Bachelor’s degree in human resources, business, or related field preferred.
- Experience performing HR in a small employer environment (less than 100 employees) a plus.
- Experience performing HR in a private trust company or family office a plus.
