ABOUT THE ROLE:
The Managing Director of Talent Management is a visionary leader and trusted advisor for the People Team and the broader school network. This role is pivotal in shaping a positive and effective workplace through expert guidance and collaborative partnerships. The Managing Director leverages deep knowledge of HR best practices, employment and labor law, and network policies to guide leaders in cultivating a thriving work environment. The Managing Director reports directly to the Chief People Officer and is a key member of the Expanded Leadership Team.
Talent Management Systems:
- Develop and execute a comprehensive talent management system encompassing performance management, development, and succession planning.
- Design and implement strategic initiatives, including pay-for-performance programs, tuition assistance, and other related programs for network-identified employee groups.
- Lead the creation and implementation of innovative evaluation tools and processes aligned with the network's vision.
- Establish 60-90 day plans and training programs for managers to ensure successful onboarding and development of new employees.
- Build and sustain meaningful career paths that support our team's long-term growth and success.
Performance Management and Coaching:
- Collaborate with Academic Leadership to align mentorship and coaching cycles with instructional priorities, ensuring early career teachers receive integrated professional development.
- Oversee the Ohio Resident Educator Program to support and guide new teachers.
- Ensure accurate and timely reporting in Ohio’s CORE system
- Match mentors with program participants and support mentors with program requirements
- Provide expert coaching and support to managers on employee performance.
- Guide and support managers in making informed employment decisions.
- Develop and implement a robust succession planning process to identify and cultivate future leaders.
- Serve as an expert on Ohio's Teacher (OTES 2.0), Principal and school leader (OPES) systems and structures as well as our Talent Management system (Perform).
- Oversee the Local Professional Development Committee (LPDC) on Individual Performance Development Plans for licensure in partnership with the Manager of Talent Compliance and Administration.
Employee Culture:
- Build and maintain strong relationships with employees and leaders to enhance satisfaction, retention, and overall experience
- .Analyze employee feedback and data to identify trends and implement solutions that enhance employee engagement and well-being.
- Design and implement recognition programs in support of network retention and engagement goals.
- Design and implement staff engagement surveys and other feedback mechanisms to gather valuable insights, identify areas for improvement, and foster a culture of open communication, contributing to increased employee satisfaction and retention.
- Foster a positive, inclusive, and equitable workplace culture aligned with the network's values and commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion.
Network Expanded Leadership Team Member:
- Contribute to strategic decision-making as a key member of the Network Expanded Leadership Team.
- Collaborate with other leaders to develop and implement initiatives that align with the network's overall goals and vision.
Additional Responsibilities:
- Perform other duties as assigned to ensure the smooth and effective operation of the People Team.
Requirements
EXPERIENCE AND REQUIREMENTS:
To perform this role successfully, the Managing Director of Talent Management will be a passionate advocate for the mission and values of Breakthrough Public Schools, possessing a combination of expertise, interpersonal skills, and a dedication to fostering a positive workplace. Education and Experience:
- Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Organizational Development, Educational Leadership, or a related field is required.
- Master's degree in a relevant field is preferred.
- Six or more years of progressive experience in human resources or leadership development, with at least two years in talent management or equivalent training, education, or experience.
- SHRM-CP/SCP or HRCI PHR/SPHR certification is strongly preferred.

- Deep understanding of HR best practices in talent management, people development and performance coaching.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to build rapport and collaborate with diverse stakeholders.
- Strong leadership and management skills, with the ability to inspire and motivate teams.
- Proven track record of developing and implementing successful talent management programs.
- Demonstrated ability to resolve complex issues with confidentiality and integrity.
- Exceptional problem-solving and decision-making skills.
- Commitment to fostering a positive, inclusive, and equitable workplace culture.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and Google Suite.
