Owned and operated by the nonprofit Manned Space Flight Education Foundation, we are the Official Visitor Center of NASA Johnson Space Center and a Smithsonian affiliate.
We are currently seeking a full-time Human Resources Generalist to provide day-to-day human resources support to assigned departments, ensuring consistent delivery of HR services aligned with the mission, vision, and values of Space Center Houston. This role supports key HR functions including employee relations, recruitment, onboarding, compliance, and HR operations while helping maintain a positive and productive workplace culture.
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Provides day-to-day HR support to Crew and managers, answering questions and offering guidance on policies, procedures, and HR programs.
Supports recruitment efforts by coordinating job postings, phone screening candidates, scheduling interviews, and assisting with hiring processes. May manage full-cycle recruiting for select roles/departments. - Coordinates and facilitates onboarding activities, including new hire paperwork, orientation, and system setup to ensure smooth onboarding experience.
- Assists in identifying staffing needs and supports talent acquisition efforts to attract qualified candidates.
- Maintains accurate employee records and ensures data integrity within the HRIS (Dayforce), including data entry for new hires, status changes, and terminations.
- Handles routine employee relations matters and supports more complex cases such as employee investigations, including documentation and follow-up under the guidance of HR leadership.
- Provides guidance to Crew and managers on the interpretation and application of HR policies and procedures.
- Supports performance management and merit increase processes with leaders.
- Assists in the administration of employee engagement initiatives, surveys, and communication efforts.
- Serves as an active participant in planning and executing employee activities and engagement events such as “fun” days, all crew events, celebrations and other events.
- Ensures compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws, as well as organizational policies.
- Assists with reporting and data analysis to support HR operations and organizational effectiveness.
- Contributes to HR projects and initiatives, supporting implementation and execution.
- Performs other duties and special projects as assigned.
POSITION QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources or related field preferred.
- 2–4 years of human resources experience, preferably in a generalist or coordinator role.
- HR certification (e.g., SHRM-CP, PHR) preferred.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to interact effectively with Crew at all levels.
- Customer service mindset with a focus on responsiveness and professionalism.
- Working knowledge of HR practices, employment laws, and compliance requirements.
- Experience with HRIS systems; Ceridian Dayforce preferred.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities in a fast-paced environment.
- Sound judgment and discretion when handling confidential information.
- Ability to work independently while knowing when to escalate issues.
- Flexibility to work occasional evenings or attend events as needed.
PHYSICAL ABILITIEES/WORKING CONDITIONS:
- Primarily works in an office environment with frequent use of a computer, phone, and standard office equipment.
- Must be able to remain in a stationary position (sitting or standing) for extended periods while working at a desk or facilitating meetings and onboarding sessions.
- Frequently communicates with Crew, applicants, and leadership in person, by phone, and via electronic communication; must be able to exchange accurate information in these settings.
- May occasionally need to move about the facility to attend meetings, support onboarding activities, or respond to Crew needs across different departments and locations.
- Ability to lift and carry materials up to 15 pounds occasionally (e.g., onboarding materials, event supplies).
- May be required to support hiring events, orientations, or engagement activities that involve standing for extended periods.
- Work environment may include a mix of office settings and active operational areas, requiring adaptability and awareness of surroundings.
- Must be able to work in a fast-paced environment with frequent interruptions while maintaining attention to detail and professionalism.
- May be required to work occasional evenings, weekends, or special events based on business needs.
