Director, Learning & Systems

ABOUT HSS
HSS is the world leader in musculoskeletal health. Ranked #1 in orthopedics by U.S. News & World Report for 16 consecutive years, HSS is defined by its commitment to clinical excellence, innovation, and its people. As the Talent function grows in ambition and sophistication, learning sits at the heart of how we build capability, develop leaders, and prepare the organization for its next chapter. This role is central to making that happen.
POSITION SUMMARY
Reporting to the Vice President of Talent, the Director of Learning & Systems is a senior individual contributor role that combines deep expertise in program design and delivery with strong technical proficiency in the Workday Learning module. This is not a traditional L&D role — it demands someone who can operate at the strategic level, design and deliver high-impact learning experiences, and own the systems and infrastructure that make learning accessible and measurable at scale.
You will be both an architect and a builder — defining what great learning looks like at HSS, and ensuring the systems, platforms, and processes are in place to deliver it. This is a role with genuine breadth, visibility, and the opportunity to leave a lasting mark on how HSS develops its people.
WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR IN A PERSON
Beyond the required skills, we are looking for someone who brings a specific set of qualities:
- A natural builder: energized by creating things that didn’t exist before and making them excellent.
- Equally comfortable in strategy and execution: moves fluently between the big picture and the detail.
- Technically confident: owns Workday Learning with depth and brings a genuine systems mindset.
- A compelling communicator: can inspire a room and write a clear, purposeful brief with equal ease.
- Collaborative and service-oriented: builds strong relationships and works through others to get things done.
- Data-informed: uses insight to evaluate what’s working and makes evidence-based decisions.
- Deeply accountable: owns outcomes, not just tasks — and holds their work to a high bar.
- AI-minded: embraces AI tools to accelerate content creation, personalization, and program delivery.
